You Don't Need Six New Habits (Only One)

You wake up, reach for coffee, and you're already three steps behind before your feet hit the floor.

Hi Reader,

I do not like waking up in the morning. Never have. But I've found a couple of tricks that work without willpower being involved — and this week's episode is full of more like them.

WHAT YOUR BODY KNOWS

I do not like waking up in the morning. Never have. But my blinds are cracked just enough that the light creeps in and does the job an alarm can't — and if that somehow fails, I've got a bird outside my window who shows up around 6am like he's got somewhere to be, chirping with the confidence of someone who was never actually invited.

Between the two of them, I'm up before I've made a single decision about it. Turns out that's the point — that first light isn't just waking me up, it's setting my whole day, a natural rise-and-fall rhythm no cup of coffee can replicate.

The bottom line: Your body isn't failing you. It's been trying to tell you something.

IN MY ROTATION

🎧 Ep. 29 6 Small Habits Your Body Will Thank You For — Six small daily anchors I come back to (and hear about most from the women I work with) — morning light, hydration before caffeine, tongue scraping, eating without screens, slower exhales, and an evening wind-down. Not a checklist — just doors you can walk through when one feels doable. 👉 Listen here

🥄 A basic tongue scraper — the one habit from this week's episode you can start tomorrow morning with something already sitting in your kitchen drawer (a spoon), or a $6 tool if you want to make it official.

YOUR TURN: Out of morning light, hydration before coffee, tongue scraping, screen-free meals, slower exhales, or an evening wind-down — which one would you actually try first? Hit reply and tell me your pick.

WHAT RHYTHM ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

One of the things I hear most from people is relief when I tell them this isn't a checklist. You don't need all six of these habits — choose one you can commit to. Here's a simple way to find yours.

SOUL CHECK-IN: Which of these already happens naturally in your day, even a little — morning light, hydration, a slower breath, a quiet meal? Start there. One small, repeatable anchor is enough to build on.

If you want a guided way to build small anchors into your day this season, the Summer Rhythms Reset walks you through simple morning-to-evening rhythms — seasonal recipes, a 3-day meal plan, and small shifts built for exactly this time of year. 👉 Get the Summer Rhythms Reset — it's $17.

MY WORLD

I've been soaking up summer with friends lately — the fair, a concert, long days that don't seem to want to end. One of the signs of balanced Pitta is appreciation, and that's exactly where I've been living: genuinely appreciating the time to do something fun with people I love.

Before you go:

If today's habits felt like a lot, remember — you only need one. And if you want a guided way to build your own small rhythms this season, the Summer Rhythms Reset is a gentle place to start. Summer recipes and a 3-day meal plan to get you started. 👉 Get the Summer Rhythms Reset — it's $17.

Be well and nourished,

Chelsea

P.S. Do you already have a morning anchor that works for you? Reply "yes" if so — I read every single one.

Nice chat, see you next week.

Chelsea Johnson Ayurveda The Body Rhythm The Season Is Shifting (Is Your Nervous System Ready?) You looked up from your desk and the sun was already setting. Earlier than it should be. Earlier than you were ready for. Hi Reader, I was sitting at my desk this week, mid-task, when I looked up and realized the sun was already setting. It was earlier than it had been just two weeks before. Something in my chest quietly shifted with it and realized fall is coming. WHAT YOUR BODY KNOWS The...

Chelsea Johnson Ayurveda The Body Rhythm Your Body's Been Buffering For Years What if menopause isn't the problem, but the moment everything else finally becomes visible? Hi Reader, Fall is starting to peek through, but the heat's still hanging on, so I'm balancing both this week. I also just moved (more on that below), and this week's episode dives into something I think a lot of you will feel seen by: the way perimenopause and menopause gets blamed for everything you're feeling. Chelsea Johnson Ayurveda The Body Rhythm Beyond Equality: The Shakti Within Hi Reader, Women's Equality Day was last week, August 26th. It's a day to honor the women who fought for the right to vote, to lead, to be full members of society. But I think equality is asking something more of us now — not to keep proving we can match the pace and productivity, but to allow ourselves the room for softness, creativity, rhythm, connection, nourishment, and rest. WHAT YOUR BODY KNOWS Many of us are...
