Where do unfelt emotions go?

Your Body Stores What You Don't Process

Your bones aren't just structure. They're storage — for everything you never let yourself feel.

Hi Reader,

I've had this question sitting with me all week: if you don't let yourself feel something, where does it actually go? Not metaphorically — physically. Turns out your body has an answer, and it's not "nowhere."

WHAT YOUR BODY KNOWS

A student found me after class recently and told me something that's stayed with me: she was learning to feel her emotions again. Not new ones — the ones she'd spent years, maybe decades, pushing down without even realizing it.

She was approaching retirement, and the space opening up in her calendar was opening up something else too — pain that kept moving from place to place, digestion that never quite settled, nights that wouldn't let her rest. She'd started attending somatic breathing classes, and something in her body finally let go.

What she felt in that room — and where feelings actually go when we don't let them move — is exactly what I get into in this week's podcast episode.

The bottom line: Your body isn't failing you. It's been trying to tell you something.

IN MY ROTATION

Here's what's had my attention lately.

YOUR TURN: What's your go-to way to cool off in this heat — iced tea, shade, the pool, staying inside with the AC on full blast? Hit reply and tell me.

WHAT RHYTHM ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

One of the most common things I hear: "I eat well, I sleep enough, so why does my body still feel off?" Usually it's not what's happening today — it's what never got to finish happening. Here's a simple way to notice it.

SOUL CHECK-IN: Think of the last time something upset you and you just... moved on. Did the feeling actually finish, or did you just get busy? Your body doesn't need you to sit with everything all at once — it just needs small, regular moments where a little can move through, instead of all of it saving up for 2am.

MY WORLD

I was out in my garden this week and got overheated faster than I expected — a good reminder that 11am–2pm is the most Pitta time of day. I'm trying to keep my outside time to morning and evening this summer instead.

P.S. Does it ever feel like your body is holding onto something you haven't let yourself feel? Reply "yes" if so — I read every single one.

Nice chat, see you next week.

Chelsea Johnson Ayurveda The Body Rhythm The Season Is Shifting (Is Your Nervous System Ready?) You looked up from your desk and the sun was already setting. Earlier than it should be. Earlier than you were ready for. Hi Reader, I was sitting at my desk this week, mid-task, when I looked up and realized the sun was already setting. It was earlier than it had been just two weeks before. Something in my chest quietly shifted with it and realized fall is coming. WHAT YOUR BODY KNOWS The...

Chelsea Johnson Ayurveda The Body Rhythm Your Body's Been Buffering For Years What if menopause isn't the problem, but the moment everything else finally becomes visible? Hi Reader, Fall is starting to peek through, but the heat's still hanging on, so I'm balancing both this week. I also just moved (more on that below), and this week's episode dives into something I think a lot of you will feel seen by: the way perimenopause and menopause gets blamed for everything you're feeling. Chelsea Johnson Ayurveda The Body Rhythm Beyond Equality: The Shakti Within Hi Reader, Women's Equality Day was last week, August 26th. It's a day to honor the women who fought for the right to vote, to lead, to be full members of society. But I think equality is asking something more of us now — not to keep proving we can match the pace and productivity, but to allow ourselves the room for softness, creativity, rhythm, connection, nourishment, and rest. WHAT YOUR BODY KNOWS Many of us are...
